Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tarnów originated from Tarnów Industrial Society and in the present form has operated since 1922 as an economic self-government uniting enterprises from the Tarnów region and the former Tarnów Province. The majority of Chamber members are SMEs operating in production, trade or services. The Chamber has a legal status and operates according to the Act of economic chambers from the 30 May 1989 (Dz.U. from 1989, No 35 entry 195 with amendments) and its Statute passed by the members.

In accordance with the Act and the Statute membership is voluntary and available for any registered enterprise. It is issued after submission of relevant declaration in writing. The main activities performed by the Chamber are: representing the member companies interests; promotion of the regional economy; business education through organisation of workshops and seminars; dissemination of economic information; establishing links for co-operation between companies; economic inquiry; publication of catalogues; fairs, exhibitions, contests and economic missions; integration of Chamber members; formation and dissemination of ethics in business.

Implementation of the above tasks is performed in co-operation with the local and central government as well as various NGOs, which value stimulation and promotion of economic development.

In its activities the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tarnów influences enterprises operating in the City of Tarnów and neighbouring administrative districts, e.g. Tarnów, Dębica, Brzesko Okocim, Bochnia and Dąbrowa Tarnowska. Co-operation with companies and local authorities has significant influence on economy in the region.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tarnów is a member of the National Economic Chamber and National Federation of Construction Chambers. It also closely co-operates with other chambers in the Małopolska region. As the only economic organisation from the former Tarnów Province it is a signatory of Małopolskas local governments agreement, i.e. Małopolska Forum of Local Governments and Economic Circles. Chamber also co-operates with Tarnów Chamber of Crafts , Poland-East Association, Tarnów Chamber of Agriculture and Małopolska Higher School of Economics in Tarnów (MHSE). Along with the MHSE it established the "Managers Club" which is a forum for exchange of information and knowledge on economy.

The Chamber is one of the founders and shareholders of the Tarnów Regional Development Agency and Tarnów Industrial Cluster - Plastics Valley. It also co-operates with foreign chambers and Polish diplomatic agencies abroad. These kinds of activities are supposed to help member companies in establishing links with foreign businesses.

Activities performed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tarnów are valued and supported by the local entrepreneurs and a constantly growing group of co-operating institutions and organisations.
